The High Desert Museum & Bull Riding

We visited the awesome High Desert Museum outside Bend.  This first class facility featured galleries, dioramas, outdoor exhibits, and loads of Indian artifacts.  We saw the Hall of the Plateau Indians, Spirit of the West Gallery, the Birds of Prey Center, the 1904 Miller Family Ranch and Sawmill, an otter exhibit, a Desertarium, the Changing Forest, and Zoo.  This museum received millions in donations and in 1982 built a first class property and buildings.  Local timbers and wood were used to make a gorgeous building.

Later in the day we drove to Sisters to see the PCRA Xtreme Bull Riding competition.  There were 24 bull riders competing for a total purse of now less than $10,000.  Each participant got two rides on the bulls and the points on the two rides, added together, decided the champion.  In the first round, only 7 riders had a full ride. (staying on the bull for 8 seconds)  In the second round, nobody stayed on for 8 seconds.  This night the bulls won!  Corey Maier was the winner with the highest score for one ride of 82.  He won $1384.00
