We are using Bakersfield for our base to explore this area. We went to the Bakersfield Speedway on Saturday night and had fun. They had numerous classes of racing. We went to the California Living Museum, better know as the zoo on Monday.(seniors day=50% off) CALM, as they call it, has only native California animals and the zoo utilizes only California native plants. No tigers or elephants here, but we did see many birds of prey, snakes, and mammals. We had lunch at Lengthwise Brewery, and I can attest that they had a great porter.(heavy, dark brew) On Wednesday we went to the Kern County Museum, which has displays inside and over 50 buildings, brought here from throughout the county to make a town. They have one of every business, houses, a log cabin, a pueblo house, and homes.
