Munising, Michigan

Today is day 23/24 of our 32 day adventure.  We are staying in Wandering Wheels Campground.  This campground is a highly wooded park.  With trees and lots of rain you get mosquitoes that are 1 in long and bite like Hell.  I think they love the rain as they are still out as it is raining.  We were all warned to have bug spray but I did not know we needed something like Diesel Gas to keep them off of us.  The rain was so bad that our boat cruise to Picture Rocks was cancelled to the next day. Wouldn't you know that I was one of 7 that our electric went out for 2 days.  The guys helped me out and we found a 110 and did a step down so I at least had coffee and a few lights.  See traveling with a caravan you always have some help.
Before our boat cruise we were treated to a Pastie Dinner.  Pasties are a complete dinner in a pastry.
You can get chicken, beef or veggie.  They are made with diced potatoes, meat and little veggies and placed in a pastry molded like a small pot pie.  The history is that they were invented for the workers so they could hold the pastie with one hand and work with the other.    I guess the beginning of Fast Food......  

Munising Michigan

Now this is a town that is really a sea town.   They have a paper mill in town which is where most of the town's people work and the others are fisherman.   This is a very busy town with lots of eateries, two grocery stores and LOTS of gas stations.  Hey, Diesel was 2.49 per gallon.  Oh yeah I filled up and so did everyone else.  This town I will remember as there were 7 of us that ended up with no electricity for 1 1/2 days.   We got all set up and settled in and the rain came pouring down for most of the day.  Now pictures this we are in the woods, dirt roads and it rains or terms we use in Florida it monsoons for 5 hours.  The temperature was dropping as fast as the rain was coming down and wait, yep you guessed it NO electric.  No lights, No TV,   NO COFFEE.... Most important.... so we are all wondering what happened since only 7 of us are without.  we are call our wagon master telling him what is happening.  Of course they have electric,,, so the temp is still dropping and now we are all wondering how much longer,,,,, well some of us had a  110 outlet in our electric box so we used a step down and got electric lights and TV  and COFFEE.   After 36 hours we finally got electric and everyone was happy.  Oh, just so you know the next morning the temp was 43 degrees.  I could see my breath.  Don't see that in Florida.

Well, we took a really nice 3 hour boat to see the Picture Rocks wow what a site.
We also went to the Logging Museum where we got to see some of the building the CCC constructed and tools used to log with.  We were then treated to some hot coffee and home made goodies.

Newberry, Michigan

Newberry Michigan is a small town we stayed overnight in on our way to Munising.  On our route  we stopped at the shipwreck museum and the Tahquamenon Falls.  The shipwreck museum was very interesting.  It showed all the ships that had wreck in the great lakes.  The Edmond Fitzgerald, and we all know the song, had alot of items from it along with the bell on the ship.   Relax take in the pictures and of course the waterfalls.

Oh Canada

Today is Saturday July 11th and I went over to Canada to see the Bush Plane Museum.   We saw alot of vintage planes used to fight the forest fires.  We were able to enter some of the planes and sat in a mock up simulator.  We saw two movies one was 3D which was really nice.  After the museum we
stopped for some lunch.  Nice day had by all.

Sault Ste Marie, Michigan

Yesterday we had a really beautiful day.  We left early morning drove 2 miles to the Soo Locks Visitor Center to watch the ships glide through the Locks.   It is amazing how fast they fill up and
how big some of the barges are.  After watching the ships pass we took a Trolley ride for 90 minutes around town.  Who would of thought it would take 90 minutes to see such a small town.  We drove around seeing some of the history of the town and the Indian Reservation.  

Lunch was on our own so we walked across from the Visitor Center and met a few of our travel buddies and ate a great lunch.  After we meet down at the Maritime Museum called " Valley Camp"
then on to the Tower.

After a long day of site seeing we all meet over at my place ( I had the end site that was the largest....
They said I paid the Wagon Master,,, I said of course,,,)  for a wonderful Happy Hour with lots of food the the even numbers made.  I am a even and I made some hot chicken cheese dip.   A really nice ending to a great day.
