Preparing for the Road

We are still at Golden Village Palms resort in Hemet, California. This place is so fabulous, that we booked two visits for later this year and early next year.  We'll be back October 15-November 14, 2012 and January 1-May 1, 2013.  Over the past month we have gone to the ballroom for Fiesta, a Mexican dinner with dancers and a Mariachi band, The Four Tops concert (2 hours of wow!), Brazilian night with great food and Carnival dancers and music, Mediterranean Night with great Greek food, music and belly dancing.  Another was Margaritaville with a Jimmy Buffet Revue band, which sounded pretty good.  We had burgers and picnic food in memory of "Cheese Burger in Paradise, " one of Buffet's songs.  PS: There is always three choices of free wine at every event.
Debra and the ladies are finishing up their billiards season.  Debra did pretty good, but didn't finish in the top three, but she has fun being with the ladies on Fridays.  The champion is Millie, (far left) who is 95 years young and attributes hear prowess to playing longer than anyone else.
We are getting ready to leave on April 1st, heading slowly north through California.  We will get to Oregon in early June.  Our first few stops will  be Simi Valley (the Reagan Library), Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and a tour of Heart Castle.

World of Outlaws, Perris, California

We purchased tickets in advance to see the World of Outlaws winged sprint cars a few months ago for last nights race.  Our neighbors, Terry and Nadia from British Columbia went with us.  We've loved seeing these World of Outlaw races, ever since we saw them in Knoxville, Iowa back last spring.  Knoxville is their home base and the Sprint Car Hall of Fame is there.
It was a clear night, but it got cold, 45 degrees and the wind chilled us to the bone. These are the elite sprint car racers that included 20 time series champion Steve (King) Kinser. The highlight of the night was the 30 lap, 24 car, final.  Joe Saldana led the entire race, Jason Meyers was 2nd with Steve Kinser 3rd and Kraig Kinser 4th.
